The proprietor of a Chinese restaurant at Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was arrested on Friday for savagely beating his dog which was later euthanised by officials.
Reports are that the man brutally assaulted the dog on Wednesday this week and he subsequently threw the animal out of his yard between Fifth and Sixth Avenue at Diamond.
A concerned resident said that she visited the scene of the incident on Friday but the perpetrator informed her that the dog did not belong to him. She said while talking to the man, the dog was desperately trying to re-enter the yard.
She said after talking to the man, she decided to make a report at the Diamond Police Station and the man was subsequently arrested by the police. She said she decided to take the dog to the animal clinic at the Guyana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) in Robb Street in the city.
However, it was too late as the injuries to the animal were severe including broken ribs and loss of blood.
A concerned citizen noted on social media platform Facebook that her friend was trying to feed the animal but she could not eat since the injuries to her mouth were too severe. The man is expected to be placed before the courts this week.
Reports are that the perpetrator had several cats in a cage and the animals along with other dogs on his premises were rescued by the GSPCA officials on Friday.
