Blueberry clash with Net Rockers, Winners Connection tackle Topp XX in must-win matches
THE Upper Demerara GT Beer year-end football championship will heat up tonight, when crucial matches are played in a double- header feature at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
The evening’s win or go-home will see Blueberry Hill and Net Rockers collide at 19:00hrs and the second at 21:00hrs will pit Winners Connection against Topp XX.
Interesting enough is that Blueberry Hill with Royston Fraser among their players, having lost their first game, will now have to get past Net Rockers if they want to stay in contention.
Blueberry lost their first of two matches when they went down to Silver Shattas 2-1,and cannot afford another loss, while Rockers with Denzil Fordyce showing early form, are seeking another win to ensure their passage is safe for the next stage of the tournament.
Rockers downed the Shattas 4-0 in an unimpressive opening game and are favoured to get past Blueberry Hill tonight.
The second game will see Marmalaque Davidson showing the kind of form that made him such a promising youth player lead Winners Connection, who have a higher rating over their opponents Topp XX and that game will be for a place in the final four also.
Winners Connection were winners over Amelia’s Ward Panthers, beating them 2-1 and now can advance with a win over Topp XX.
However, Topp XX, after scoring a 2-1 victory against Panthers, are also keen on reaching the next knockout phase of this tournament with a win and are looking past Winners Connection. With both scoring wins over the Panthers who are out, it is a deciding encounter for which team will advance further in this tournament.
Tonight, therefore, is a night where you have to win or go home.
