– GTI upstage LTI to lift trophy
AN MVP-performance from Jada Mohan was all it took for Marian Academy to sink Kwakwani Secondary 58 – 19 to take home the female Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Titan Bowl, when the curtain came down on the tournament on Sunday last at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
In the male category, the Government Technical Institute (GTI) had the better of the Linden Technical Institute (LTI) in a ten-point thriller (83 – 73), to keep the trophy in Georgetown.

Mohan was sensational in her performance as she completely dominated the floor during her 27 points performance. The standout point guard also had four assists, five rebounds and six steals to, along with her showing, earn the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
For the school from the Berbice River in Region 10, Shania Sears scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in the loss to Marian Academy.
Meanwhile, Anton Fileen had a game-high 29 points and hauled in 12 rebounds, while dishing out five assists in an impressive win for GTI.
Jared Sears’ 20 points and eight rebounds also punctuated the night for GTI, who had to hold off the sharp-shooting Daniel Lee and Jamal Gilkes in order to win the title.
Lee was good enough for 28 points and six rebounds, and Gilkes netted 25 points and 11 ‘boards’ but that was not enough for the Lindeners to hold on for the win.
The tournament, which was sponsored by Edward B. Beharry and Company Ltd, Banks DIH LTD and the National Sports Commission (NSC), is the final tournament of the year on the school’s basketball calendar.
