A 26-year-old miner who was on the run after allegedly killing another miner at Puruni Landing in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni region in November, was captured by the police.
The suspect, Deion Evans also known as ‘Rasta Beans’, was apprehended on Saturday December 16,2018 by police ranks at Sulphur Road backdam,Cuyuni River and is currently in police custody. He is expected to be placed before the court later this week.
According to the police, Boyal who was a pork- knocker from Waramuri Mission, Moruca River, North West District, was shot and killed on November 11,2018 at Puruni Landing.
Boyal was reportedly employed by a dredge owner and was working at Rock Creek, Puruni River at the time of his demise.
It is alleged that on the day in question Boyal left Rock Creek along with one of his co-workers and they headed to Junior’s Disco, also located at Puruni Landing.
While at the Disco, the man’s co-worker had an altercation with Evans which resulted in him being punched to his face.
As a result, Boyal intervened and pushed Evans way. Boyal and his friend left the disco and were walking along the Puruni Road on the way to their camp when they came under attack.
It is alleged that Evans joined the vehicle of 56-year-old man and instructed him to drive.
While the man drove , Evans allegedly pulled out a hand gun from his waist and pointed it towards the vehicle’s windowscreen and dicharged a round in the direction of the Boyal who was still walking along side the Puruni Road; the miner then fell to the ground .
The front windscreen shattered in the process.
It is alleged that Evans exited the vehicle and dischsrged another round at the Boyal and made good his excape.
Police saw threw wounds on Boyal’s body; one above the abdomen ,one under the right arm and another to the right upper back.
