(CMC) – Stand-in skipper Rovman Powell believes West Indies can turn the page on their wretched Test series outing by flaunting their true Caribbean identity in the three-match One-Day International series, starting here today.

West Indies were crushed 2-0 in the preceding Test series with neither match, in Chittagong and Dhaka, going beyond three days.
Powell, a surprise choice to replace injured regular captain, Jason Holder, said it was important the Caribbean side play their own brand of cricket in order to counter Bangladesh.

“It all comes down to the brand of cricket West Indies want to play, us finding our identity and us doing what we want to do as players,” Powell said ahead of the contest.
“This is a good blend of guys, mixing youth with experience. We have Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo, Shai Hope and young (Shimron) Hetmyer; and all those players combined give us a nice blend.”

The one-day side will have a new look, with new players flying in for the shorter format. Windies Twenty20 skipper Carlos Brathwaite has been recalled to the side along with Bravo, while veteran Samuels adds further experience.
Stroke-makers Hope and Hetmyer will add the youthful flavour to the squad, along with all-rounder Fabian Allen and speedster Oshane Thomas.
Powell said the squad had worked hard in preparation since the end of the Test series and were well-oiled for the tough series.

“I think the team is very prepared. A lot of hard work has gone on over the last few days and I think that is good. Here in Dhaka, the conditions can be difficult for us, but the guys are upbeat and I’m optimistic we’ll get positive results,” said Powell.
“The training was very good. We did some hard yards and we’re definitely looking forward to tomorrow. Day/night games always bring exciting cricket and it’s just up to us to go out there and play our brand of West Indies cricket, back our skills and get the best possible result.”

West Indies will be looking to exact revenge for their 2-1 defeat to Bangladesh, when the Asian side toured the Caribbean earlier this year.
They will also be hoping to break the drought which has seen them go without a series win since 2014, when they beat Bangladesh at home.

Overall, the Windies ODI form has been wretched. In 31 ODIs in bilateral series dating back to March last year, they have won just five matches while losing 21.
