Pestano, Permaul rule day two

THE Guyana Jaguars are 115 for the loss of three wickets batting a second time around in their Cricket West Indies (CWI) Professional 4 day match against the Windward Island Volcanoes.

Leading by 152 runs, the Guyanese will start day three today with Targenarine Chanderpaul 29(125) at the crease alongside Clinton Pestano who is yet to come off the mark after facing 8 deliveries.

The wickets of Trevon Griffith went for 23 (36), Skipper Leon Johnson (51 from 72) and Vishal Singh (3 from 9) fell during the last session of day two at the Darren Sammy National Stadium in St Lucia

Yesterday, the Windward Islands managed only 187 when their last wicket fell.

Resuming the day at 32-2, the Volcanoes were hoping for a better day but the dismissal of Taryck Gabriel (7 from 26) just under two overs into day was a major setback.

The loss of Ronald Cato 0(3) just two deliveries later only compounded the problem with Clinton Pestano continuing his dream performance.

From there on it, the results were heading in favour of the Jags, Kavem Hodge managing just 19 from 43 balls before he was caught by Christopher Barnwell off the bowling of Keon Joseph.

Alick Athanaze (34 from 80) provided resistance alongside Dennis Smith (20 from 36) as well as Delorn Johnson (34 from 33) but aside from that, there were no other meaningful contributions.

Pestano added two more scalps to his day one performance to finish with 4 for 46 from 14 overs while Versammy Peramul finished with 3-13 from 6.1 overs as he mopped up the tail.

There was a wicket each for Keon Joseph (1-37off 14) and Romario Shepherd (1-44 off 18) as the Jaguars seized control.

Day three continues today.
