THE left-hand, right-hand combination of spinners Timore Mohamed and Richard Latif helped the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) to an exciting two-wicket win against GNIC when the New Building Society (NBS) 2nd Division 40-over cricket tournament continued recently at the MYO ground.

GNIC won the toss and batted. Although Mohamed removed the openers, GNIC were able to take the initiative. For the third wicket, Premchand Sookdeo and Ryan Shun combined for 71, but Mohamed, who flighted the ball well, continued the damage, he took his third and fourth wickets in the middle of the innings after Latif had removed Shun for 47 (7×4, 1×6).

The left-hander got the wickets of Sookdeo (34 4x4s) and Shone DeSouza (8), before Latif cleaned up the tail.

Both bowlers finished with four wickets each as GNIC folded for 169 in 34.2 overs.

Although the home team reached the total with more than 12 overs to spare, they lost quite a few wickets in the process. Shefiek Ishmile 31 (5×4, 1×6) and skipper Kemraj Ramdeen 36 (8×4) put on 49 runs for the second wicket, but when the two became victims of Trevor Jones, MYO collapsed.

It took an unbeaten knock of 30 by Vinash Rampersaud to see the team home. Rampersaud, who ran the singles hard, struck two fours and a six to lead MYO to 173-8 off 27.2 overs.

Jones finished with four wickets, while Jermaine Grosvenor and David Dick supported with two each.
