CARIBBEAN light welterweight champion Colin `Superman’ Lewis has been named captain of the Guyana team to participate in this week’s Caribbean Boxing Championship.

The gangly 25-year-old was selected on Saturday by the team of coaches preparing the 32-member Guyana side for the upcoming event.

Lewis is the nephew of Guyana’s first world champion Andrew `Sixhead’ Lewis and is the national champion of his division.

He won a bronze medal in the South American Games. The Able Rating of the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard is known for his punching power and is tipped to be a major contributor to Guyana’s gold collection drive during the four-day Caribbean championship.

The region’s premier tournament, organised by the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) will punch off on Thursday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall beginning at 18.00hrs .

Guyana will do battle with Antigua, Barbados, Cayman Island, Dominica, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe,  St Lucia, St Maarten, Trinidad and Tobago and the US Virgin Islands.

Overseas teams for the championship will start arriving tomorrow.
