Dear Editor
THEMayor and Councillors of the city of Georgetown wish to inform the general public that ranks of the City Constabulary are not authorised to collect monies which includes stall rents and cleansing fees from vendors and stallholders.
The council has received several complaints about this alleged unethical practice. The council wants to make it pellucid that the revenue collectors who are attached to the City Treasurer’s and Market Departments are the only ones authorised to collect monies on behalf of the council.
Therefore, the vendors and stallholders should pay only persons authorised to collect monies on behalf of the municipality. They should also ensure that they collect a receipt for payments made. All revenue collectors are clad with identification badges affixed with the stamp of the council.
