Today is Critchlow Day

THE Ministry of Social Protection proudly recalls that a motion piloted by the late Hon. Mr. Winston S. Murray C.C.H., M.P. was passed in the National Assembly on November 30, 2005. The motion declared that November 28 then and henceforth be recognised as Critchlow Day, in recognition of the sterling contribution he made to, inter alia, the development of the labour movement and consequently the trade union movement.

Critchlow who was also known as ‘Skibby’, will always be remembered as one of the most outstanding political leaders of Guyana and the British Commonwealth, the ministry said in a release.

The Ministry of Social Protection which currently promotes the maintenance and expansion of workers’ rights said it is conscious of the fact that the benefits which all workers enjoy these days’ rest on the legacy laid by this great hero.

As our leaders prepare to debate and adopt the largest-ever budget which is designed to promote workers’ rights and human development, the Ministry of Social Protection urges all citizens to reflect on the struggles, work and achievements of our hero Hubert Nathaniel Critchlow on this day of national importance.
