A FIVE-WICKET haul from medium pacer Deonarine Seegobin propelled the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) to a 69-run win over Third Class Cricket Club when action in the GCA/New Building Society (NBS) 2nd Division 40-Over cricket competition continued last Sunday at the GNIC ground.
Although GCC won the game, their batsmen never dominated. A few got starts, but none took control as Third Class opening bowler Ray Bryan did the early damage. Soon GCC were struggling at 68-6, but A. Rodrigues joined C. Persaud and the pair added 42 runs for the seventh wicket.
Persaud reached the boundary four times in his knock of 21, while Rodrigues hit six fours in his top score of 36.
GCC’s U-17 skipper Zachary Jodah also played a few shots towards the end. The 13-year-old finished with 19 unbeaten runs to push his team to 153 before they were bowled out in 32 overs.
Medium pacer Alvin Castello and Bryan finished with three wickets each, while off-spinner Andre O’Neal supported with two scalps.
First Class never got into any rhythm when they batted, as Deonarine bowled wicket-to-wicket. The right-hander’s dismissals included four leg-before and a clean-bowled decisions. The 23-year-old finished with 5-12 from seven overs, while left-arm spinners Devon Lord and Stephon Wilson finished with figures of 3-13 and 2-29 respectively.
Wilson took his wickets early while Lord cleaned up the tail.
Although three of the Third Class batmen reached double figures, none reached 15 runs.
