Rising Stars into final of MPL T20 competition

A HALF-century and solid medium pace bowling from all-rounder Shaquille Brisport spurred the Rising Stars Cricket Club to an exciting victory against Cold Fusion, in the first semi-final of the inaugural Major Premier League (MPL) T20 cricket competition.

The competition, which started with 16 teams, at several venues on the West Coast of Demerara, is now down to six.  Zeeburg have already advanced to the next semi-finals, but are awaiting their opponents, which will be determined by Tuesday after two additional games.

At the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground last Sunday, R. Dookie spanked an exciting half-century to lead Cold Fusion to 175. Dookie, who scored 82 runs from 40 balls struck five sixes and six fours. 

Brisport led the bowling attack for the eventual winners with 3-27, while Michael Richardson supported with 2-10.

Brisport then had to rescue the side after they were struggling at 96-5 from 14 overs. The all-rounder had to score at over 13 runs per over to carry his team home. He delivered, as he spanked 50 unbeaten runs in 23 deliveries. He smashed five fours and three sixes in the process.

Brian Austin supported with 35 runs from 24 balls (1×4, 2×6) as the winners claimed a victory in the last over.
