LEVI NEDD has started his tenure as president of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) with an ambitious agenda, which hopefully can cement the sport as a top three in the future.

The long-serving volleyball administrator, who was voted in unopposed yesterday at the Guyana Olympic Association, told the Guyana Chronicle that he wants to see more persons involved, and that he intends to spread the sport to all corners of the country, especially in the interior.

“We are calling on the entire Guyana, on all persons who have touched a volleyball to support the cause.”
Nedd said that the intention is to take the game to the people. “We intend to reach out to nursery schools, secondary schools and University of Guyana.”
The former GVF vice-president added that the federation would also target the major faiths.

At the first meeting after the elections, Nedd, who is also president of the Berbice Volleyball Association, told the new executive that the aim is to make the federation vibrant.
He also promoted 10 hallmarks, which he hopes can lift the body, among them accountability, integrity, effective communication, initiative and family.

Nedd said that the idea is to look at the technicalities of the game and to use initiates to improve it. “If you continue to use the same techniques, you will not improve.”
The 57-year-old said that the federation would look to have regular competitions and have teams prepared at all times and not only for competitions or for international meets.

THE OTHER MEMBERS
At the elections of office-bearers, president and coach of the Castrol Volleyball Club, Rodney Fredericks, was voted in unopposed as vice-president, while Denise Miller was elected as secretary and Daniel Harricharan as treasurer. Current treasurer of the Demerara Volleyball Association, Ashley Bayley, was selected as assistant treasurer.
Nedd said that the federation would soon select a technical director and a general secretary.
