GUYANA’s 3 – 2 defeat to the Cayman Islands on Tuesday meant that they are officially out of the CONCACAF U-20 Championship and will face Curacao today in a match that will see the young Golden Jaguars unit playing for pride at the IMG Academy in Florida, USA. Kick-off time is 1:45pm.
Like Guyana, Curacao are win-less after their two games so far, which makes today’s game interesting. The Wayne Dover-coached side showed flashes of brilliance during their heart-breaking loss to Cayman Islands, especially Western Tigers forward, Kelsey Benjamin, who netted the side’s first goal of the tournament.
While Guyana conceded seven goals and scored in two games, Curacao scored just as much but allowed only four.
In Guyana’s loss to the Cayman Islands, Benjamin was the side’s best player, and will want to continue his form in today’s game.
Guyana did much better in keeping possession of the ball against the Cayman Islands, as compared to their game against Guatemala, and Dover’s men will want to find a way to convert their possessions into more goal-scoring opportunities.
Given the start to their last game, it is unlikely that Guyana will change their line-up which saw Jeremy Garrett wearing the captain’s band, and was joined by Benjamin and Chris Macey who also found the tournament, along with Cecil Jackman, Ryan Hackett, Job Caesar, Ryan Dowding, Thair Britton, Nixon Robertson, Kwai Marsh-Brown, Nicholas McArthur and goalkeeper Jonathan Vaughn.
Guyana will play their final game of the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 tournament against El Salvador on November 10.
