DHANRAJ Persaud met a unanimous guilty verdict from a 12-member-jury on Monday afternoon, and was remanded to prison awaiting his sentence for the charge of rape.
The 38-year-old man was charged with rape of a child under the age of 16. The particulars of the matter read to the court states that Persaud, called Rakesh, engaged in sexual penetration of a child aged 15 years old on October 23rd 2013.

Upon the announcement of the guilty verdict, the man took a deep gasp and stood calmly as his attorney, Maxwell McKay requested time for probation report and plea of mitigation. The presiding judge, Justice JoAnn Barlow, granted the time for same and delayed the victim’s impact statement for the adjournment date.

The court returns on November 27th for the hearing of his probation report, plea of mitigation, the victim’s impact statement, and the sentencing of Persaud. The state was represented by their prosecutors, Seeta Bishundial and Tiffini Lyken.
