GUYANA’s Emmerson Campbell followed through on his promise of a three-peat in the Men’s Physique Category at the Stage of Champions III while Surinamese Wendell Setropowari copped the overall title on Saturday night at the Theatre Guild in Kingston.
Guyanese Marlon Bennet was the Surinamese’ closest challenger, eventually settling for second place while another Surinamese athlete, Shawn Roberts, copped third place.
Earlier, in the Men’s Physique competition, Campbell was the clear favourite, rousing the crowd with his well chiseled body and well balanced proportions.
Copping silver in the same category was Rudolph Gerowcosta (Suriname) while Randall Haakmat (Suriname) closed out the top three.
Bennett was adjudged the best welterweight bodybuilder with Donald Lindie and Darius Ramsammy placing second and third respectively.
Over in the bantamweight category, Tejpaul Sammy did just enough to clinch first place ahead of Faraad Mohamed and Ghamshan Goberdan.
Meanwhile, Guyana’s Caerus Cipriani copped top spot in the welterweight class while his compatriot, Ravendra Persaud, claimed second place.
It was an all Suriname affair in the sizzling Ms. Bikini competition, with first to third place being occupied by Stefini T Jon-A-San, Jawelle Singoojojo and Priscilla Calor, in that order.
In the clash of the ‘Titans’– the heavyweight class– Setropawiro took top spot, but second and third was claimed by Guyana’s Jermin Jones and Carlos Petterson-Griffith.
The event, which attracts international competitors because of the lucrative cash prizes on offer, was of a higher standard than in previous years.
Organiser of the event, Videsh Sookram deemed the event a success and expressed optimism of a fourth edition next year, which he is planning to make bigger and better.
