THE 12-member jury in the 2012 murder trial of Phillip “Shoelace” Paul, who is accused of the murder of shopkeeper Kamal Ramsahoye, was empaneled in the Demerara High Court before Justice Sandil Kissoon on Tuesday morning.
However, following the empanelment, there was a voir dire to determine the admissibility of the caution statement.
The State is represented by Prosecutors Lisa Cave and Abigail Gibbs while the defence attorney is Brandon De Santos.
The State will present eight witnesses in the trial while defence has one witness.
According to the State, Phillip Paul allegedly murdered Kamal Ramsahoye called “Vickie” in the course or furtherance of a robbery in the county of Demerara between December 8 and 9, 2012.
The North Annandale, East Coast Demerara man was found dead in his fortress-like residence.
A post-mortem revealed that he had been stabbed 10 times and that he died from shock and haemorrhaging.
