IN observance of World Post Day 2018, on Tuesday the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) awarded children of staffers who performed well at National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination as well as, students of their adopted school St. Roses High and the winners of the Universal Postal Union Letter Writing Competition.
The ceremony took place at Post Office Training School, Carmichael Street, Georgetown, where members of the Board of Directors, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Telecommunications, Deborah McNickle and others were present.
A total of seven students were awarded on Tuesday and were recipients of varying prizes of gadgets, gift vouchers among other things.
In delivering remarks, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Telecommunications, Deborah McNickle told the awardees to aim high for continued success and to become well-rounded individuals be it at housework, academic and sports.
She said that Minister of Public Telecommunications, Cathy Hughes is always pushing for our youths to embrace ICT for local development and advancement of careers, a simple advice that should be heeded.
Also speaking at the event was Deputy Postmaster General, Anastasia Jessemy-Lynch. She said in celebration of World Post Day 2018, a series of activities have been planned but Tuesday was dedicated towards awarding top performers of the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and CSEC among others.
Jessemy-Lynch urged the awardees to build their capacity to bring about excellence not only academically but also in their personal lives to develop good character and be disciplined to apply themselves in whatever they seek to embark on.
She added that the GPOC has been around for 150 years and will continue to provide jobs and enhance communities locally by supporting youths and education.
Director of the Board, Nicola Trotman, in her encouragement to the recipients, urged them to challenge themselves in their future endeavours to be successful.
