BCB congratulates players selected for Regional Super 50 competition

THE president, executives and member clubs of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), in a release to the media, have extended congratulations to the Berbicians selected to represent Guyana in the upcoming Regional  Super 50 Tournament.

“We are very proud of Anthony Bramble, Gudakesh Motie, Veerasammy Permaul, Romario Shepherd and Clinton Pestano and we are very confident that they would not only keep the Ancient County flag but they would be perfect ambassadors of Berbice rich cricketing legacy.

“From John Trim to Shimron Hetmyer, Berbice over the last eighty years has a rich history of discipline, hard work and performance. We would also like to wish Shimron Hetmyer and Devendra Bishoo all the success as they represent the West Indies in India during the Test series.

“Bishoo, with over 100 Test wickets, has proven to be a match winner on numerous occasions while young Hetmyer is well on the way to becoming a legend in his own rights. The Berbice Cricket Board stands behind each one of our players and wish all of them great success” the release stated.

On another note, they expressed great concern that the highly-talented Jonathan Foo seemed to have fallen off the Guyana selectors’ radar. “Foo is a natural talent who deserved a chance to showcase his God-given ability. He continues to perform well and a talent such as his should not be neglected but encouraged” it continued.

“The BCB is fully aware that the Guyana team was selected before the Franchise League and it was a common fact that players knew in advance that they were selected. The Berbice Cricket Board would like to encourage the Selection Committee to be guided by fairness, honesty and the best interest of Guyana’s Cricket.

“Finally, the BCB would like to make its displeasure known publicly that one county is allowed to play as a team while Berbice is divided into three separate teams. Essequibo is virtually playing one third of a Berbice team whenever they play one of the three Berbice Franchise teams.

“ With Shimron Hetmyer and Devendra Bishoo away on West Indies duties, one is also left to wonder why Romario Shepherd is not allowed to play for one of the Berbice teams. No Demerara player has ever been sent to Berbice, but one of our best players is posted to West Demerara, which already have a number of Franchise players.

“The BCB salutes the victory of our sister county, Essequibo, in the Franchise League. But is it fair when they are allowed to play as one while we are divided into three? It concluded.
