ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) – There was a goal-fest in the second round of matches in the CONCACAF Nations League, with a total of 12 goals scored in the three matches played on Friday.
French Guiana trounced Anguilla 5-0, St Lucia thrashed Antigua 3-0 and Belize completely outplayed The Bahamas on their way to a 4-0 victory.
The results were a stark contrast from Thursday’s opening round matches which saw Guyana draw 2-2 with Barbados and Suriname and Dominica battle to a goalless draw.
French Guiana were led to victory by first-half goals from Lauritin Jean-Eudes in the 15th minute, Joffrey Torvic in the 29th and Alex Eric’s 38th-minute strike, as they took a commanding 3-0 lead.
Thomas Issorat (55th minute) and Warren Rino’s goal in the 83rd minute ensured there would be no comeback for Anguilla.
Krishawn Lopez came on as a substitute to score a brace as the Belize Jaguars started the competition with a comfortable win at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
Deon McCauley scored the first goal for Belize in the 40th minute, before an own goal by Jonathan Miller in the 44th doubled the lead.
Early in the second half, McCauley missed an opportunity to get another goal from a penalty which was awarded after he was taken down inside the penalty area.
However, Lopez scored two late goals to secure victory for Belize.
Antigua were not able to use the home crowd to their advantage, as they failed to score against St Lucia.
Goals from Pernal Williams (50th), Andrus Remy (67th) and Jevick McFarlane in the 90th minute, however, ensured that the visitors left the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium with full three points.
