THROUGH assistance of public-spirited citizens, an armed bandit was caught with the loot after robbing a supermarket at Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara on Thursday.
Reports indicate that a superintendent, after learning of the robbery, coordinated an operation with ranks of the Grove Police Station, resulting in the capture of the suspect and recovery the stolen items.

The team managed to arrest Deon Chester of Diamond Housing Scheme, who was seen joining a route 43 minibus, heading to Georgetown after robbing the supermarket.
A search discovered over $100,000 in cash on his person. Chester was taken into police custody where he admitted to committing the crime.

The supermarket is owned by Chinese nationals.
