ROHAN Daniels called “Shine Buck” was on January 24, 2018 handed life sentences by Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall, to run concurrently for two counts of rape of a child family member.
On Monday, he appeared before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to face sentencing for separate counts of rape of the little sister of the previous victim. This act was said to have occurred when the child was just nine years old.
Daniels was indicted for four counts of sexual activity with a child family member. It is alleged that between April 12 and April 13, 2014 the accused engaged in sexual activity with a child, when she was 10 years old; that between April 13, 2014 and July 22, 2016, he engaged in sexual activity with a child who was 11 years old at the then time; between April 13, 2014 and July 22, 2016 it is alleged he engaged in sexual activity with a child who was 11 and 12 years old then; it is alleged that on July 23, 2016, the accused engaged in sexual activity with the child who was only 13 years old. On this occasion, the accused violated the child while she was asleep near her siblings.
This additional count on the little sister, allegedly occurred between January 2016 and August 2016.
The judge in handing down the life sentence to Daniels, who was not represented by an attorney, told the court that she considered the nature of the offences and circumstances under which the acts were committed. The judge said that the accused violated his relatives while their mother was at work and betrayed his position of trust on numerous occasions.
As such, the judge imposed the maximum sentence of life imprisonment, eligible for parole after serving 30 years.
