AFTER his heroic efforts in Mexico City, Mexico, Guyana’s Carlos ‘The Showstopper’ Petterson-Griffith, who set three new national records on his way to grabbing two gold medals at the 16th Annual IPF/NAPF Regional Powerlifting Championships, has qualified for the 2019 World Championships.

Petterson established new squat, deadlift and total records when the competition ended last Saturday, and he secured himself a place at the World Championships in the process.

Having already won a gold medal in the Men’s Raw Open 93kg class on Friday, he claimed another gold medal while contesting the Men’s Equipped Open division, setting a new national rotal record of 800kg.

Petterson’s squat of 315kg is also a new national record, as was his deadlift mark of 330kg. His bench press was 155kg.

This performance cemented Petterson- Griffith’s place at the World Championships. Guyana ended the Mexico sojourn with 6 gold and 3 bronze medals.
