A 21-year-old man was Friday remanded to prison on a robbery under arms charge.
The court heard that on July 16, 2018, between Drysdale & Ketley Streets, Charlestown, while being in the company of others and armed with a gun, Odingo Haywood robbed Ayake Kadir of one gold chain valued at $300,000 and a cellphone worth $200,000.
The labourer denied the charge, but the police prosecutor objected to bail being granted due to the serious nature of the offence and the fact that a gun was used.

The police say the virtual complainant and the defendant are known to each other. On the day in question, the victim was wearing his chain at a shop with his friends when the defendant came with a piece of gold to sell. No one seemed interested and as they were about to disperse, the defendant went up to the virtual complainant, pulled a gun out of his waist and robbed him. The matter was reported to the police and the defendant was arrested.

Bail was refused by Magistrate Fabayo Azore and Haywood was remanded to prison until August 17, 2018.
