IN celebration of Emancipation this year, Courts Guyana joined with the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) to honour and showcase the richness of African culture in Guyana.
Once again, they hosted their annual Staff Emancipation Dress Competition, as the company acknowledged one of the richest cultures of our people. The programme featured African drumming and dancing as the staff displayed their African attire. Customers shopping in-store were treated to pone, a traditional African food, and enjoyed the little showcase the staff put together to express their appreciation of the life we are afforded today.
The event was graced with the presence of Mr. Eric Phillips, an executive of ACDA, who provided an Emancipation address and assisted with judging the competition along with other representatives of ACDA.
The winners of the competition were Ryan Charles for males and Marcia Edwards for females. Courts Guyana encouraged all Guyanese to live in unison and to appreciate our cultural diversity.
They also used the opportunity to present a cheque of two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) to ACDA in support of their Emancipation festivities.
