… Gonsalves vs Scott to be main event
OVER $3 million dollars in cash prizes and trophies will be up for grabs when the Lake Mainstay Resort hosts its annual Regatta on Sunday, August 12 at the magnificent fresh water lake.
The gates will be opened from 09:00rs on the day and the Regatta events will commence at 11:00hrs. The stage show immediately follows after the presentation of cash prizes and trophies.
Being dubbed the ‘Clash of the Daredevils’, the main events will see veteran power boat racer Neil Gonsalves and Team from Pomeroon take on Dave Scott and his team from Bartica.
There are 13 categories of Power Boat Racing and the events are as follows:
3 – 15 HP – 2 laps Male/Female Race
2 – 40 HP – 3 Laps Male/Female Race
3 – 90 HP – 4 Laps Male/Female Race
2 – 200 HP – 5 Laps Male/Female Race
3 – Open HP – 6 Laps Male/Female Race
Along with:
1 – 200m – Male Canoe Race
1 – 200m – Female Canoe Race
1 – 200m – Open Swimming
Meanwhile, a memorial race in the 90 HP category will be held in honour of the late Orin Bell.
After the daredevil regatta races on the water, the big stage show and beach party will unfold with artistes such as Yoland Nedd (Dancehall/Soca Artist), Vicadi (Chutney/Soca), Vanita Willie (Guyana’s Chutney Queen), Kadi Kish (Soca), Calibro Band (Brazilian Music) with renowned comedian Lyndon ‘Jumbie’ Jones as the Master of Ceremonies (MC).
Music will be provided by Pream’s Mega Sounds and Essequibo Champion Music Fusion.
Other attractions will comprise a Children’s Fun Park with a merry-go-round, trampoline and a bouncy castle.
The Resort’s Food Court will be offering Lake Mainstay’s delicious unique cuisine while beverage bars will provide a wide variety of drinks from which patrons can choose.
The Lake Mainstay Resort Regattas have grown over the years and have gained the reputation to be well organised, disciplined and the biggest in Guyana over the past five (5) years.
In a release to the media, administrators of the Resort noted that they are promoting a family event and anticipate in excess of 8 000 patrons from overseas along with locals, especially from Essequibo Coast, Region 2.
Management advises all attending to be early to secure a vantage spot to enjoy the many racing events all day long.
