A LABOURER was Friday sentenced to a one-year term of imprisonment on a simple larceny charge.
The charge alleged that between July 4 and 5, 2018, at 196 Charlotte Street, Jason Joseph broke and entered the storeroom of Ryan Gobi and stole one roll of electrical wire valued $600,000, one power drill valued $105,000, one electrical machine valued $28,000 and other mechanical tools valued $45, 000… total value of $678,000 and the property of Sherwin Khan.
It was also alleged that at the same location, he broke and entered the store of Ryan Gobi and stole one electrical saw valued $35,000, painting materials valued $15,000 and other items valued $ 20,000, property of Sherwin Khan.
The man pleaded guilty to both charges.
According to facts that were given in court by police prosecutor Sanji Singh, the complainant secured the storeroom and left the items inside. Later, upon checking, he observed the storeroom open and he discovered the items mentioned were missing.
As a result, the camera footage was reviewed and this lead to the arrest of the defendant. The defendant was arrested and charged and admitted to the offence in a caution statement.
He was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment by Magistrate Leron Daly.
