New York Independence Cup champions Regal Masters will be in action on Sunday at Everest.

NEWLY-crowned champions of the New York Softball Cricket League (NYSCL) Independence Cup, Regal Masters will bounce back into action locally this Sunday when the Ink Plus, Crown Mining Supplies and Elegance Jewellery and Pawn Shop grand softball tournament resumes with three matches.

Local teams and individual players had a working break of two weeks from action on home soil to take part in the annual tournament in the ‘Big Apple’ where Regal Masters easily won the Eagle, the symbol of supremacy in the Over-45 years old category.

On Sunday the champions will take on H.S. Masters on pitch number one at the Everest Cricket Club ground in the first of three matches scheduled for the day.

In the other games, Success Masters will battle Narine Masters on pitch number two while Fishermen Masters will look for a good catch when they come up against R.R. Masters on pitch number three.

Prior to their departure for New York, Regal Masters were on a four-match winning streak and will be looking to extend that when they take the field against familiar rivals H.S. Masters.

At the start of the tournament in May, Regal Masters suffered a heart-breaking defeat to HS Masters off the last ball in a cliff-hanger of a game at the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground and will no doubt be looking to turn the tables while their opponents will be buzzing with confidence for a repeat.

Eoin Abel, Mahendra Hardyal, Mohendra Arjune, Parsram Persaud, Eric Thomas, Fazleen Mohamed and Mahesh Chunilall are among the top class players who will be in action looking to continue their good run with both bat and ball when the action begins at 09:30hrs.

The tournament is organised by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc. and is being contested in the Over-45 and Open categories on a round-robin basis.
