Fuel trader drowns in Waini River

A THIRTY-six-year-old man who sells fuel in the Mabaruma sub-region fell off a boat and drowned in the Waini River, North West District on Tuesday afternoon.

Dead is Oswyn Gaye called “Red Man” or “Mark”.

Reports are that the man left the town of Mabaruma to buy fuel from boats moored off the Waini Coast on Tuesday afternoon and around 15:30hrs he reportedly fell off the boat in which he was travelling.

Persons in the area made desperate attempts to save him but to no avail.

The man was also said to be a carpenter, plumber and a “hussler” who plied his trade at Mabaruma.

Gaye is said to be from Georgetown and his peers at Mabaruma are asking his relatives to make contact with the authorities in the Region One town regarding the incident.
