The ‘mis-placement’ of GPL poles

–in my community

Dear Editor,

AS I write, a crew of men working on behalf of GPL are digging a hole in front of my house for a light pole. Sir, this pole is at the edge of the carriageway of the now degraded roadway.

I showed the fellows that earlier-placed poles are aligned about two feet away, but they persisted. I do not know who gave them the authority to place the hole there, but it definitely will prove to be a hindrance whenever the BV/Triumph NDC decides to rebuild this apology for a road.

I did call the chair for the council to complain, hoping he would have been able to come around and have a word with the diggers. But he informed me that GPL had held a community meeting to apprise residents of the activity, as if that meant they have secured carte blanche to execute their project in any which way they please.

Not getting the support of the district chair, I returned to the diggers and tried to dissuade them, but was told that there is no way they are going to consider another location for the post and I can do what I like.

Yours Truly
Elton McRae
