POLICE on patrol seeking a wanted suspect in Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast, came under fire from a group of men they stumbled upon at a marijuana field and camp on Friday.

Reports indicate that on approaching the men, the party of police came under fire and the men fled in the nearby bushes.

Another camp that was destroyed

They were pursued and a 29-year-old resident of the community was later arrested. During the chase, another camp was found at the site. The camps which had groceries, kitchen utensils, hammocks and clothing were destroyed.

Upon investigation, four more fields of marijuana plants with over 1200 plants ranging between six inches and seven feet in height were found along with a seedling nursery.

Police later destroyed and set alight all the camps. Also at one of the camps a bottle containing two live cartridges and five .38 spent shells was found.
