Man accused of promising to free murder suspect for $5M

A MINER yesterday appeared before a city magistrate charged for obtaining money by false pretense.

The charge alleged that between September 20, 2016 and January 20, 2017 in Georgetown, with intent to defraud, Richard Aulder obtained $5 million from Nicola Duggan by falsely pretending he was able to get the case dismissed against Robert Benn who was charged with the murder of Collin Perrier.

Benn is the reputed husband of Duggan
The 46 year old man who resides at 159 Enterprise East Coast Demerara denied the charge that was read out to him in court. His attorney Kevon Best told the court that the police have no evidence against his client and he applied for a reasonable bail to be granted to his client since it is his first time being charged.

Prosecutor Sanj Singh had no objection to bail but said that conditions should be applied. However bail was granted in the sum of $200,000 by Magistrate Leron Daly and the matter was adjourned to July 20, 2018.
