QUEENSTOWN resident Emanuel Courtman is suffering a fractured leg after he was allegedly beaten by three Essequibo policemen Wednesday night.
He is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and is expected to undergo surgery to his leg in the coming days.
According to Courtman, he was socialising with some friends at a wash bay in the Queenstown drinking “Cherry Brandy” when three policemen, including a female, approached them.
He said the policemen searched them and found nothing illegal and then ordered that they go home.
He said they all decided to go home; however, he forgot his mobile phone on a bench and went to collect it. When he reached the wash bay, the cops were still there and they asked him why he was still there.
He told them the reason and then one of them started to push him and told him why he returned when they had sent him and his friends home.
An argument ensued, he said and the police started to hit him with a wooden baton and a gun. Courtman alleged that he was dealt a crushing blow, fracturing his right leg. The young man said he could identify the policemen if asked to do so.
