Tallo’ Hutson donates MVP trophy, Semi’s on today

FORMER national footballer Rickland Hutson yesterday donated the MVP Trophy for the Linden Amateur basketball Association’s (LABA)/ Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG)/ Powerade Regional U-19 Schools championship.
Huston, through his Rickland Hutson Leadership Academy, donated the trophy ahead of today’s semi-final stages from 15.00hrs at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court.
In addition, he also donated an undisclosed amount of cash for the playing of the tournament, which has also seen support from Banks DIH through its Powerade brand,YBG; the Regional Education Department and the Mackenzie Sports Club.
Jessie Marshall, on behalf of Hutson who resides in the United States, made the donation to Dr. Karen Perreira, who is a vice president of the ABA.
Hutson, a former Christianburg resident and a lover of sports, who was influenced by the benevolence of his mother,the late Mrs. Evelyn Hutson, said he felt obligated to do this on her behalf.
In fact, in a statement for the occasion, Rickland Hutson whose brothers Selwyn Hutson, Renwick ‘Chief’ Hutson and Rawle ‘Taitty’ Vickery also donned senior national colours, remarked “the trophy is in memory of my mother, the late Mrs. Evelyn Hutson, my family [and] my foundation.Thanks for giving me the opportunity to contribute towards your positive influence on our youths.”
Dr. Perreira speaking on behalf of the LABA, expressed optimism that today’s semi-finals would see the Linden Technical Institute, Mackenzie High School, New Silvercity Secondary and Wisburg Secondary battle it out for a place in the finals on Friday.
The top three will gain automatic entries in this year’s Youth Basketball Guyana National Basketball Festival which begins this weekend in Georgetown.
