A RUNWAY and parking area which were constructed recently at Baramita, Region One, have already started to show signs of deterioration.

“It is in a deplorable condition due to substandard work… the bitumen layer is less than a ¼ inch thick,” said pilot Learie Constantine Barclay in a post on his Facebook page.
Barclay said the area was rehabilitated less than six months ago, but has already started to deteriorate.

“I must blame the contractor who knew he was shafting the taxpayers by doing this egregious wrong! This would not have stopped up to a car, much less a 10,000 pound aircraft exerting landing forces on it,” the pilot lamented.

In a response to the Facebook post, Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson, said the matter will be investigated and reported, once the contract was done under his ministry.
