A historic meeting

Dear Editor,

JUNE 15th, 2018, marked an important date in the relationship between Regions One and Two.  Region One, led by their Regional Chairman Brentnol Ashley  and accompanied by Regional Executive Officer  (ag) Tikaram Bisessar, Regional Education Officer Mr Nigel Richards, Regional Health Officer Mr Cerdel McWatt, Regional Councillors Leandra Singh, Lucky Wilson and Eleini La Rose, among others,  met with a Region Two delegation led by Regional Executive Officer Mr Rupert Hopkinson and included Deputy Regional Executive Officer Mr Roop Kumar Persaud, Assistant Regional Executive Officer Ms Yvette Hastings, Administrative Officer Mr Maurice Walcott, Regional Health Officer Ms Afarah Khan and Hospital Administrator Ms S. Ambrose to discuss issues of mutual interest to the two regions, and examine areas of cooperation and collaboration.
The community of Manawarin, a community that is located in both regions, came under focus.

After discussions on matters of security, health, education and social ills affecting the community, it was agreed that a joint team of officers from the various sectors will pay a visit to the community during next month and the health department of the two regions have been mandated to organise a joint health outreach.

The sides have agreed to work together to improve health services to their citizens, especially in the areas of “cold cases” dealing with infants and maternal mothers and transfers of emergency cases. Consideration is being given for collaboration on teacher training, improving education delivery and tackling the variety of social ills affecting Manawarin. It was noted that a significant number of children are not in school.
Both teams have committed to continue working to achieve the matters agreed to, and at the least, meetings of this level to be held annually.

Regards
Mark McLean
