ACTING Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Monday released a 24-year-old miner on $100,000 bail for allegedly stealing solar panels from the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI).
Omar Castello is accused of stealing three solar panels from the GWI office at Kabura, Moruca, North West District, on May 21, 2018.
Castello denied the charge and his attorney Priyanka Sookraj made an application for bail, on the grounds that her client was the single father of a four- year-old child.
Prosecutor, Inspector Gordon Mansfield made no objection to bail but requested that it be granted at a substantial amount.
The case has been transferred to the Acquiro Magistrate’s Court for hearing onJuly3, 2018.
Meanwhile, a 31-year-old fisherman was charged for receiving the stolen solar panels from Castello.
It is alleged that Kirkland France received the three stolen solar panels on May 22, 2018 at Kabura, Moruca. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on $100,000 bail.
France was also charged with assaulting a police officer, who was acting in execution of his duties on April 23 at Moruca. He also denied the charge and was released on self-bail. Both of France’s matters have been adjourned to July 3.
