TORONTO, Canada – The Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) duo of Uniss Yusuf and Lloyd Rooplall made an immediate impact on the Canadian softball scene with brutal unbeaten innings of 76 and 65 not out respectively, as GTA Storm made light work of Ramblers when the Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) entered its second day last Sunday, here.

Playing in the B Conference at the Lester Pearson ground, Scarborough, the pair who recently arrived from Guyana, shared in an unbroken opening stand of 151 as GTA Storm stormed to victory in 16.5 overs in the 20-over affair after Ramblers were dismissed for a challenging 149 in their allotted overs.

While Yusuf’s knock contained eight fours and five sixes, Rooplall cleared the boundary on nine occasions in his no-nonsense knock.

Earlier, Hardat Chabilall was the mainstay of Ramblers innings, smashing an undefeated 57 while Richard Rosan made 22. For GTA Storm, Sheldon Burnett captured two for two from his four overs while Mohan Sahadeo claimed two for 19.

GTA Storm’s win followed their loss to Wakenaam on Saturday’s opening day when Yusuf’s unbeaten 42 failed to take them home in a close encounter despite batting through the innings.

Yusuf, who represented Rems in last year’s OSCL tournament and All Stars in the Ontario Masters Softball Cricket Clubs (OMSCC), has taken over the captaincy of GTA Storm while Rooplall is enjoying his first stint with the team.

Meanwhile, another GFSCA player, Ramo Malone who also played his first match in the Ontario Masters Cricket Clubs (OMSCC) Over-40 competition on Sunday, led Impact to a narrow victory over Pegasus.

Malone, who also turned out for GTA Storm on Saturday and Sunday, slammed a top-score of 52 as Impact reached 110 for seven in 19.2 overs, overhauling Pegasus’ 109 for six in their allotted 20 overs.

GTA Storm and Wakenaam will clash once more on Saturday, as they battle for supremacy, in the opening round of the Caribbean Sensation 10/10 knockout tournament.
