CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday remanded two men from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, which is located in northwestern Africa, for entering Guyana illegally.

Ifra Oumar Diallo, 25 and Moussa Amaclou N’Digue, 29, were charged separately for the offence which alleged that on May 21, 2018 at Springlands, Berbice they entered Guyana by sea and failed to present themselves to an immigration officer.
The duo, speaking French, pleaded not guilty to the charge with the aid of an interpreter.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield opposed bail on the grounds that the men were flight risks.

The chief magistrate remanded the men to prison and transferred the matter to Springlands Magistrate’s Court for May 30.

According to reports, the men are living in French Guiana. On the day in question they boarded a boat from Suriname and came to Guyana.
They were busted at Charity by a police officer who asked to see their passports.
