The A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) Government has recommitted to creating greater opportunities for young people, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Basil Williams told the Region Four flag-raising ceremony on Friday.

The event was held in the compound of the Region Four Regional Democratic Council (RDC), located at Triumph, East Coast Demerara.

Williams told the audience that government is committed to ensuring they are equipped to assume meaningful roles in the country’s development. “Our government sees you as our solution for the development of Guyana. We are on the cusp of transformation and you have a government that understands how to deal with people. You have a government in the past that established the national service when there was heavy youth unemployment as now. It gave us skills it gave us discipline,” Minister Williams said as he delivered the feature address during the event which was held to mark Guyana 52nd Independence Anniversary.

He encouraged them to take full advantage of opportunities for training presented through various government-sponsored programmes. “We have the STEM programmes where you try out your hand at robotics, science and technology. These are the halcyon days for young people and you need to take every opportunity which has been presented to you because we have seen in the past what the education policy had done for the Guyanese youths”, the Minister explained.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Genevieve Allen congratulated the newly elected Toshao of Pakuri, Beverly Klienken and urged other women to step forward and lead. “I will like to urge all of the women in our region that come local government elections that you rise up, and that you also take your rightful places in leading your communities”, Allen said.
