Persons from around the world and locally could  soon be able to purchase “tri-lake” experience packages which would provide them with an insight of what Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has to offer in terms of “black water” tourism.

This is according to Director General for the Department of Tourism, Donald Sinclair who made the announcement during a regional tourism workshop on Thursday in the boardroom of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) boardroom at Anna Regina.

The workshop was attended by regional officials, representatives of the Anna Regina Town Council, owners/managers of key tourism establishment, tour operators and representative from the banking and security sector.

Sinclair , while speaking to participants, said that the workshop was a follow- up to a previous exercise in 2017 , with the main aim of identifying a “flagship tourism hot spot.”

At the moment key stakeholders have identified the “tri-lake” tourism experience which will provide three different opportunities for  visitors to explore. The Tapakuma, Mainstay and Capoey Lakes were the lakes identified for the project. The package will include an Indigenous life element with canoeing, wild life, agro- tourism, recreation, bird watching and tasting of sumptuous indigenous delicacies on offer.

The Region Two Tourism Association as well as leading stakeholders are now tasked with the responsibility of preparing a business concept plan which will state what necessary infrastructure will be needed for such a development initiative. The cost of the project as well as the different phases will be included in the 2019 national budget and once passed , it is expected to be rolled out in 2019.

Region Two Chairman Devanand Ramdatt, said that project  is a positive way of marketing the region’s  tourism potential. He also said with the construction of the Supenaam Development project  will serve as the welcoming mat for such an initiative. Ramdatt said that Region Two has a lot to offer especially in “black water” tourism and he noted that he would be if the “tri-lake” project materialises.

Toshao of Capoey, Melrose Henry, said that village has a lot to offer to the world with assets such as its pristine rain forest and a clean lake.

She said the community is developing at a fast rate and as such she is inviting persons to experience what the lake has to offer and with the implementation of the project, many businesses as well as communities are expected to earn extra revenue.
