SOME 27 persons from various registered hotels and resorts in Region Two were trained in customer service delivery by the Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday.

The one-day training seminar was facilitated by Maureen Paul of Hospitality Management Services, a local company.

According to Paul, the training aims at providing the necessary improvements for the hospitality sector in Region Two, as well as to equip those providing the service with the necessary knowledge to accommodate guests.

Speaking to participants in the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) boardroom, Anna Regina, Paul said providers play an important role in serving guests.

It is expected that at the end of the training, service providers will be able to demonstrate appreciation to go the extra mile in making a guest feel comfortable.

Paul also said that this year the tourism sector will be celebrating “Culinary Tourism,” which aims at putting Guyana’s cuisine on the world map.

The participants were taught tourism and customer service and were placed in groups where they had practical sessions.

At the end of the one-day training, the participants were provided a certificate in the field of customer service, which can be used to make them more marketable in the field of tourism.

According to Clyde Edwards, a tourism officer, similar training was conducted in the various administrative regions. Edwards said the Ministry of Tourism had partnered with the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce to make the training a success.

According to Edwards, Essequibo has a lot of tourist attraction sites, and as such, once persons are trained in the field of tourism, they will be able to market the region better.

The participants thanked the ministry for the training. Executive member of the Essequibo Chamber of Commerce, Maria Lord, said the exercise was educational and informative.
