RASHID Khan bamboozled Kings XI Punjab, who collapsed in a chase of 133 to hand Sunrisers Hyderabad victory by 13 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) yesterday.

Kings XI came into this clash on the back of four straight wins and they were made to rue a number of missed chances in the field as Sunrisers were able to scrap their way to 132-6.
That score was underpinned by Manish Pandey, who was dropped on four, nine and 46 as he made 54 from 51 balls after Ankit Rajpoot (5-14) had run through the top order.

Kings XI began their chase with the intimidating and in-form pair of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul opening up and although they put on 50 for the first wicket, the innings unravelled dramatically thereafter.

Rashid was the tormentor-in-chief, claiming 3-19, and he was superbly backed up by Basil Thampi (2-14), Sandeep Sharma (2-17) and Shakib Al Hasan (2-18) as Kings XI tumbled from 55-0 to 119 all out.

Few would have foreseen such celebrations for the hosts, who found themselves up against it at 27-3 in the powerplay as Rajpoot claimed a wicket in each of his first three overs.
Kane Williamson, scorer of three fifties in his last four outings, perished for a duck courtesy of a top-edged pull to mid-off, before Shikhar Dhawan nicked to slip and Wriddhiman Saha holed out to Andrew Tye at midwicket.

Rajpoot ought to have finished his initial three-over burst with 4-9, but from the next ball Tye put down a chance in the same position and Pandey breathed a sigh of relief.
Pandey had already been dropped by Ravichandran Ashwin in the previous over and those misses set the tone for a poor display from the visitors.

Following Tye’s drop of Pandey, Shakib was taken on the third-man boundary in the last over of the powerplay, only for replays to show Barinder Sran had overstepped.
Shakib (28) and Pandey combined for a stand of 72, the latter enjoying his third life as Mayank Agarwal barely got a finger on a simple chance.

To make matters worse, Yusuf Pathan was dropped over the boundary for six, by Manoj Tiwary and it was left to Rajpoot to restore some form of order in the final over, cleaning up Pandey and dismissing Mohammad Nabi to finish up with five.

Gayle had walloped 11 sixes in a 63-ball 104 when these two sides met a week ago, but he could offer only a pedestrian 23 off 22 this time around, while Rahul struck four fours and a maximum in his 32 from 26.

However, they proved to be the only contributions of note as no other batsman passed 13, Rashid prompting the demise by deceiving Rahul with an absolute jaffa.

The Afghanistan leg-spinner also trapped Karun Nair lbw before Williamson held a steepler to remove Ashwin. Kings XI were 101-9 at that point, having lost nine wickets for 46, and it was left to Thampi to clean up Rajpoot in the final over to complete a sensational team bowling display.
