THE Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association (BCCDA) will partner with the Trojan PSL Cycling Club of New Amsterdam to hold a cycling road race on May 5. The race is open to cyclists across the country and all the top riders in Guyana are expected to attend.
This race is being held to mark the national holiday of Arrival Day in Guyana and it is the aim of the chamber and the club to make it an annual event.
The race will commence at 14:30hrs and the riders will race around New Amsterdam for laps to cover 60 miles.
It will comprise four categories; the Senior Open, Junior Open, Veterans and Juveniles. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded. The first six finishers in the Open category and the first three in the other categories will be rewarded.
The organisers of this event are expecting the Indian High Commissioner or a representative from the Indian High Commission, the Regional Chairman of Region 6, the Mayor of New Amsterdam and the Director of the University of Guyana – Berbice Campus to be in attendance at the presentation ceremony.
The BCCDA and Trojan PSL Cycling Club are encouraging the general public to come out and witness this race which promises to feature riders from across the country.
According to the newly-elected president of the BCCDA, Ryan Alexander, the activity is being held to commemorate the day and is the BCCDA’s effort to give back to the community. He said that it is the desire of the newly-elected executives to be a part of a number of such events.
