A FIRE on Tuesday swept through a sawmill owned and operated by N and S Gumani & Sons, located at Grant 1651 CrabWood Creek, East Berbice, Corentyne.
According to information reaching the Guyana Chronicle, the fire reportedly started from a generator located in the ‘power room’ and rapidly spread to various parts of the sawmill. The fire reportedly started at 10:00hrs. The Guyana Fire Service was summoned to the scene and responded as every effort was made to contain the blaze. This newspaper understands that the fire subsequently restarted later in the afternoon but was put out by firefighters. An investigation has been launched.
