DWAYNE Edwards was on Monday remanded to prison for being in possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
It is alleged that on April 20, 2018 at Campbellville, Georgetown, Edwards had in his possession 9.64 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The 27-year old man pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Attorney George Thomas who represented the accused, told the court that there were other occupants at the house, also that his client had not given a written or oral statement. The attorney also asked for his client to be granted reasonable bail.
Prosecutor Arvin Moore, however, objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence. He told the court that the defendant was seen with the drugs in his hands and as the police approached he threw a black plastic bag with the cannabis inside under a chair. The bag with the drug was retrieved by the police.
Bail was refused by Magistrate Judy Latchman and Edwards was remanded to prison until May 14, 2018.
