… Reportedly while on cellphone
A TODDLER and her father, who was reportedly talking on his mobile phone while speeding along the public road at Covent Garden on the East Bank of Demerara, on Thursday morning, escaped unharmed after the vehicle crashed into a utility pole.
The accident occurred shortly before 08:00hrs during the busy rush-hour.
Reports are that the man sped past several vehicles as he headed to the city. An eyewitness told this newspaper that the man was talking on his mobile phone as he drove along the roadway.
A Guyana Chronicle reporter was driving along the roadway when the accident occurred. The man’s white Nissan X-Trail vehicle screeched several times before missing several other cars which were ahead of him. Seconds later, the vehicle ploughed into the median as it headed for the opposite lane. However, the vehicle crashed into the utility pole.
A child could be heard crying and the man later emerged from the vehicle with phone in hand, as public-spirited citizens rushed to his assistance.
