FOUR firearms seized by police during a roadblock on the East Bank of Demerara on Tuesday evening are all brand new weapons.
The serial numbers for two of the weapons have been filed out and the police are confident that they would be able to at least trace the origin of the weapons and be able to say whether they were linked to any crime committed.
The police have also found during the roadblock in response to a robbery along the East Bank of Demerara, One Glock 9mm pistol with serial number FKA 452 and 11 rounds; one black Glock 9mm pistol with its serial number filed out and 11 rounds; one black Beretta Pistol with serial number PY 1467150 and 11 rounds; and one Taurus pistol with serial number filed out and six live rounds.

In addition, they found less than $1500 in the vehicle, a sledge hammer, two pairs of unused gloves and two trade plates belonging to a popular auto dealer.
Last weekend, police arrested three persons including a teenager who admitted that he has been transporting small arms from the interior of Guyana to the coastland in exchange for gold.
The police are trying to get to the bottom of that matter.
On Tuesday evening, six men were arrested when police set up a roadblock to nab suspects who were fleeing a robbery scene.
Those persons have been identified as taxi driver Steve Hercules, 30, of Lot 2-3 Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara; Nabidigi Gobin, 33, a trader of Lot 181 Charlotte Street, Bourda; Renard Khan, 31, a fish vendor of 147 Cooper Street, Albouystown; Mark Prince, 39, a taxi driver of Lot 52 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara; Edward Skeete, 30, a trader of Lot 309 Independence Boulevard; and Marvin Blackman, 27, of Lot 89 Dars Street, South Ruimveldt.
The Guyana Chronicle was told that the men were in the process of robbing the home of a Chinese national, who was at home with his two sons, when they heard a suspicious sound.
On checking, the Chinese found persons trying to break into their property and raised an alarm, causing the men to flee the area.

A senior police officer attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who was informed of the incident, quickly contacted the police in ‘A’ Division who promptly setup a roadblock and nabbed the suspects.
A police source has indicated that Blackman is a known character and had appeared before the courts in the past for similar activities.
The vehicle in which the men were nabbed on Tuesday night bore registration number PVV 6204.
It was later discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen. A resident of 99 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, Shawn Liverpool, claimed that his vehicle was stolen on March 25, 2018.
