Back in prison for same type of crimes

MONTHS after 34-year-old Devon Holder was released from prison for snatching gold chains from persons in the vicinity of Stabroek Market, he was on Tuesday sentenced to four years’ jail for the same crimes.

Holder appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh and pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery.

He confessed that on January 9, 2018 at Stabroek Market he stole a chain valued $530,000 from Rafeek Mohammed. The court heard that Mohammed was robbed of his chain after reportedly being trailed by Holder.
Holder further admitted to being armed with a knife on April 5, 2018 at the Stabroek Market, and robbing Pamela Gibson of her $100,000 gold chain using violence to achieve his goal.

According to reports, Holder attacked Gibson by placing a knife at her neck and took away her chain. During the ordeal he reportedly dealt her several cuffs about her body before he escaped.

Holder, who has been in and out of the prison system since 2009 for similar charges, was sentenced to two years jail each for the offences read out in court. The sentences will run concurrently.
