EMPORIUM Investments Bureau Inc, a new civil engineering and construction company was launched here Friday, bringing to the Guyanese populace a promise that speaks to guaranteeing quality control, quality assurance and good construction methodology.
And with a whopping 20-year guarantee on buildings they construct, Director of Operations and Civil Construction Engineer Mr Sean Thompson affirms:
“We are a team of competent, experienced and committed professionals who take pride in providing our services to our clients by using 21st Century technology systems and materials that are eco-friendly and cost-effective.”

Emporium Investments Bureau, which was incorporated in October 2016, is located at 17 Brickdam and Sendall Place, Stabroek, and has at its helm besides Thompson, Ms Karni Paton as chief executive officer, and Mr Eldon McGregor, director of land resource and management, among other professionals.

It has as its Vision: “To be the premier service providers in logistics, procurement, construction and civil engineering works in Guyana and the wider Caribbean.”
According to Thompson, who has worked on projects all across the Caribbean, he came up with the name, “Emporium”, out of a vision to create a company that can offer a wide array of services under one roof and with the ability to adapt.

Among projects the company has under its belt are the construction of bridges, roadways, drains, cofferdams, large ponds and schools in places such as Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and here in Guyana.

Dr Vishnu Doerga, Chairman of the National Standards Council and former President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who delivered the feature address at the opening, commended the principals and team of the Emporium for introducing such a novel and well-thought-out service to Guyana, particularly at a time when people will be coming from all parts of the world to take up jobs related to the emerging oil and gas industry and ultimately residence.

Noting that Guyana has to prepare for what is to come in that regard, Dr Doerga said this is something to which many more companies need to give serious thought as well.
Another niche worthwhile exploring, Dr Doerga submitted, is the engagement in restoration services, given the many heritage sites and buildings that are crying out for attention and repair, after once being masterpieces and elegant facilities.

He reminded his audience that when tourists come to Guyana, one of the first things that pique their interest is seeing our heritage wooden buildings and not the everyday edifices they see while at home.

And while complimenting Emporium for taking such a leap of faith, he cautioned that they would do well to deliver that which they promise, as only excellence would suffice, and should at no time be compromised. He also called for strict adherence to the code of conduct governing occupational health and safety on the worksite, and stressed the importance of having construction workers clad in safety gear while on the job.

And, speaking of standards, he bemoaned the current trend, whereby newly constructed homes can be seen falling apart in no time, after people had invested their life’s savings in putting a roof over their heads.
